How to Buy Farm Fresh Garlic from Honeyville Acres

If you've never purchased garlic directly from a farm, you may be wondering where to start. At Honeyville Acres, we grow heirloom garlic in Northern Utah using mindful, organic practices, and every summer we look forward to sharing our harvest with customers across the country.

Whether you're cooking for your family, stocking your pantry, or planting a garden, here's a simple guide to choosing the right garlic for your needs.

First, Decide How You'll Use It

For Everyday Cooking

If you love cooking with fresh garlic several times a week, our farm-fresh culinary garlic is the perfect choice. Freshly harvested and properly cured garlic offers exceptional flavor, easy-to-peel cloves, and a longer storage life than grocery store garlic.

Our varieties include:

Music Garlic

  • Large, easy-to-peel cloves
  • Bold flavor when raw
  • Smooth and buttery when roasted
  • Approximately 5–7 bulbs per pound

German White Garlic

  • Rich, distinct flavor
  • Excellent for roasting and cooking
  • Large cloves with beautiful reddish-brown skins
  • Approximately 5–8 bulbs per pound

Elephant Garlic

  • Mild, slightly sweet flavor
  • Perfect for roasting, grilling, and everyday cooking
  • Huge cloves that are easy to peel and prepare
  • Approximately 4–5 bulbs per pound

For Gardeners

Many customers purchase garlic not only to eat, but also to plant.

Garlic is planted in the fall and harvested the following summer. By planting quality seed garlic, you can grow your own crop and save the largest bulbs for replanting year after year.

If you're interested in growing garlic, our planting stock is selected specifically for gardeners and growers.

How Much Garlic Should You Buy?

A common question we receive is, "How much garlic do I need?"

As a general guide:

  • 3 bulbs are ideal for trying a new variety or occasional cooking.
  • 6 bulbs work well for households that cook with garlic regularly.
  • 12 bulbs are great for garlic lovers who want to stock their pantry for the season.
  • Our Chef's Box is perfect for anyone who wants to experience multiple varieties and flavor profiles.

When stored properly in a cool, dry location with good airflow, many garlic varieties can last 6 months after harvest.

When Is Garlic Available?

Our 2026 harvest will be available beginning July 25th. Harvest begins the first of July. After harvesting, bulbs are carefully cured to develop their flavor and improve storage quality. We offer fresh garlic from harvest through planting season while supplies last.

Because heirloom garlic is grown seasonally and in limited quantities, some varieties may sell out before the season ends.
